Nissan has shared new information about the Qashqai e-Power variant with a self-charging hybrid powertrain, and it will be the first model in Europe to benefit from Nissan's e-Power technology. The Qashqai e-Power combines a three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 156 hp and an electric motor that produces 188 hp and 330 Nm of torque.
The battery is also charged via regenerative braking, with fuel consumption of 5.3 l/100 km (44 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 119 g/km according to preliminary data.
What is the Nissan e-Power system and how does it work?
E-Power was first introduced in Japan in 2016 with the Nissan Note. It features the 100% electric technology used in the Nissan LEAF to deliver instant torque, power and efficiency. The system consists of a gasoline engine with a power generator, an inverter, a battery and an electric motor.
E-Power, unlike the traditional hybrid system, allows the exclusive use of the car's engine to generate electricity by separating the engine's energy from the thrust at the wheel level.
In late December 2020, Nissan launched the all-new Note car in the Japanese market, which is exclusively equipped with the E-Power system, and more than 20,000 orders have been registered for it.
